Western Canadian Farmer Opinions on Fertilizer Emission Reduction Targets

Measuring farmer reaction to Canada’s proposed 30% fertilizer emissions reduction target

Why This Study Was Conducted

In August 2022, the federal government’s proposed target to reduce fertilizer-related emissions generated significant discussion among Western Canadian farmers.
iFusion Research conducted a rapid farmer survey to measure awareness, agreement, concerns about yield impacts, familiarity with 4R Nutrient Stewardship, and views on whether future reductions would remain voluntary.

Why Interactive Voice/Touch Response Was Appropriate

This study demonstrates how Interactive Voice/Touch Response can be used to quickly measure farmer opinion on time-sensitive issues.
It allowed iFusion Research to reach a large sample of commercial farmers across three provinces in a short field period, while still applying professional weighting, tabulation and statistical analysis.

Why Farmers May Find This Useful

iFusion Research shares selected case studies so farmers can see how their survey participation contributes to industry knowledge, policy discussion and better understanding of producer views across Canada.
